Traditionally Constructed Axes

Hand-forged tomahawks, trade axes, belt axes and woodworking axes.  These look great hanging on the wall but are made to be used.   They are made the traditional way from mild steel with a high-carbon steel cutting edge forge-welded in.  When we can get it, real wrought iron can be used for special axes.  Handles are generally hickory or ash, depending on what is available as good handle wood at the time.

This example is made from from mild steel with a welded in tool steel cutting edge.  The eye was punched and drifted.

This ax was inspired by one pictured in the Mountain Man Sketch Book
